10 Days Explorative Safaris
Our explorative programme is expected to cover three administrative regions which are Kilimanjaro, Arusha and Manyara regions all located in the northern part of Tanzania (The northern Circuit). Specifically we expect to cover the following areas: (i) Arusha-Kilimanjaro ecosystem; areas around Arusha and Kilimanjaro National Parks and the surrounding ecosystem which includes West Kilimanjaro area, Southern slopes of Mt. Meru covering local community areas and the Mt. Meru forest (ii) Arusha-Longido-Lake Natron(iii) Lake Natron-Loliondo-Serengeti ecosystem (iv) Serengeti- Ngorongoro ecosystem, and (v) Karatu- Lake Eyasi (vi) Lake Eyasi-Manyara ecosystem.
Day1: Arrival- Transfer to the lodge: Arusha-Kilimanjaro ecosystem
Welcome at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) on your arrival .Transfer to your lodge in the West Kilimanjaro where you will have a rest and meals. In the afternoon, drive in key areas around west Kilimanjaro to explore the landscape between the two highest mountains in Tanzania and Africa (Mt. Meru & Kilimanjaro).
Arusha-Kiliamanjaro ecosystem: This is the beautiful widlife/cultural rich ecosystem in which our highest mountains (Mt. Kilimanjaro and Meru) are located. The ecosystem which is characterised by conducive weather, contains a mix of natural forests, plantations, savannah, and water bodies, and spans across two administrative regions which are Arusha and Kilimanjaro regions. It is not far from Kilimanjaro International Airport where your flight will land and take off. We shall drive around the ecosystem exploring different areas in an amazing view of Mt. Kilimanjaro and an opportunity to interact with locals in a beautiful landscape. Dinner and Overnight at your lodge
Day 2: – Game drive in Enduimet WMAs
After breakfast, you will experience a wonderful game drive while enjoying both the wildlife and scenic views around Mt. Kilimanjaro and Meru. Dinner and overnight at your lodge
Day 3-4: Lake Natron
After your breakfast at your lodge, depart early in the morning to Lake Natron via Longido experience the the genuine Maasai steppe in the Arusha-Longido-Lake Natron which is yet another ecosystem with a unique landscape harboring local communites, livestock and wildlife. You will take a route which mainly goes across a semi-arid area inhabited by the Maasai ethnic group whose major livelihood activity is
livestock keeping. You will experience driving in the remote and rugged area (through which you may likely encounter wild animals) as you head to Lake Natron, a soda-alkaline lake and ramsar site (a bird area of international importance) which not only harbors abundant flamingos (both lesser and greater) but also serves as a globally important breeding site for almost 80% of the global flamingo population. The flamingos which are filter feeders water-fowls, feeds on among others algae in the lake and are favored by the high alkaline conditions. We will have sufficient time to conduct exploration around Lake Natron as we will stay here for two days. While exploring around the lake ecosystem, you are likely to have an opportunity to see several wildlife species such as giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, enjoy or participate in various activities including visiting and enjoying in the water falls, seeing Masai bomas and enjoy Maasai dances and walkings and a variety of their culures, seeing one of the oldest foot prints. In the Lake Natron landscape you will enjoy a close view (of about 50 km) of the Ol Doinyo Lengai (‘Moutain of God’) which is an active volcanic mountain. If intereested we only have chance to climb this active volcano Mountain. Lunch, Dinner and overnight at Lake Natron Camp/equivalent
Day 5-6: Lake Natron-Loliondo-Serengeti ecosystem
After breakfast, take your picnic lunch from the lodge and then proceed to northern Serengeti National Park via Klein’s gate. You will be enjoying one of the remote natural and wildlife areas as you drive to/within this world famous area. You will have a chance to cruise for about 130 km from Lake Natron ecosystem to Serengeti ecosysem. This is also a rough and adventrous patch which again goes through a real savannah area, largely inhabited by the Maasai ethnic group, livestock and wildlife. We will access the Serengeti National Park via the northern Klein’s gate to go through and stay in the area with a high chance of encountering one of the globaly magnificent phenomena (the largest wild mammals migration) in the world heritage site. We will have a wonderful opportunity for two days game drive in this African best National Park and experience the largest migration in the world.
Lunch, Dinner and Overnight at Mara Under canvas camp/equivalent
Day 7: Serengeti- Ngorongoro ecosystem
After breakfast, you will have an opportunity to drive through a breathtaking landscape and experience the essence of wildlife-rich and endless plains (‘Serengeti’). This route which is usually crowded by tourist vehicles, spans about 200 km up to Karatu township. Along the route are many opportunities to see several wildlife species. Enroute visit The Olduvai Gorge (where is the cradle of mankind) to experience the origin of human life. Thereafter we shall proceed and get into the word’s largest intact caldera (The Ngorongoro Crater) which is one of the natural wonders of the world based on its unique formation. You will have opportunity to descend into the crater which is
extremently rich in wildlife. In this section of the exploratory route, we will visit and stay for a night at Karatu township where we will mingle with locals and exploring things of your interests. Dinner and Overnight at Farm of Dreams Lodge/equivalent
Day 8: Karatu- Lake Eyasi
After early morning breafast, take a picnic lunch and proceed to Lake Eyasi. This is another route we shall explore stretching for about 50 km from Karatu township to the Lake Eyasi, a salt lake situated on the floor of the Great Rift Valley. We will spend a day exploring amazing natural-cultural alnd around Lake Eyasi. As part of the exploration we will participate in the fascinating traditional activities including going for hunting with the bushmen Hadzabe tribe where you will personally experience and learn the authentic hunting-gathering life style in harsh wilderness area. We will plunge into the local culture in this area by further visiting the Datoga and black Smith villages where you will experience the locals’ traditional ways of life. Dinner and overnight at Ziwani lodge/equivalent
Day 9: Lake Eyasi-Manyara- Arusha
We will take our final exploration stretch in the Northern circuit by driving from Lake Eyasi to the Manyara ecosystem, which goes through East African Rift Valley escarpment. The route will also take us through Karatu and Mto wa Mbu townships where we can have stopovers and walk around to see what is available in this ethically rich town. You will have opportunity to tour Lake Manyara National Park (man and biosphere reserve) where you are likely to see tree climbing lions and large herds of herbivores such as elephants, buffaloes, zebras and wildebeests. You will also enjoy hot spring and the beauty of Lake Manyara. Late in the afternoon in en-route to Arusha we may spend some time experience the multicultural township Mto wa Mbu. Dinner and overnight at your lodge in Arusha
Day 10: A small local/town tour and Transfer to JRO for departure
This will be a last day for our exploratory trip. After breakfast, we will drive around to see what is available and relevant for your interest, e.g. Arusha town tour, lake Duluti tour, local village tour. Depending on your interest and time available, we may go through local community areas and forest in the southern slopes of Mt. Meru in which you will enjoy some connection to the culture of this community and later drive along the cool Mount Meru forests. In the afternoon we will have lunch and spend a little time reflecting on your amazing trip. After that, we will drive to Kilimanjaro international airport for your flight back home.
